The DRT_BMX system provides a year-round training framework offering structured on-bike and off-bike development opportunities that support consistent athletic progression and performance.
Structure
DRT programs are aligned with LTAD BMX athlete age, stage of development, seasonal schedule demands, and are delivered as a combination of group training options that include Race Training Sessions and DRTdryland programming, with both in person and remote training options.
This system operates on a 4-phase, 12-month periodized structure, designed to balance training load, competition demands, and recovery while optimizing long-term development & performance outcomes.
Training Phases
Phase 1 — OFF-SEASON
Build the Engine - Build the Athlete
- FOCUS: on foundational strength, movement quality, endurance, and power development.
Phase 2 — PRE-SEASON
Race Ready - Power & Precision

Phase 3 — RACE SEASON
Manage the Load - Protect the Peak
- FOCUS: Training load is managed to support peak performance, competition readiness, and planned recovery during race season.
Phase 4 — POST SEASON
Reset, Recover & Prepare to Build
- Training load is reduced following competition. Emphasis is placed on recovery, rebuilding movement quality, and preparing for the upcoming training cycle. Programming for this phase includes both DRTdryland off-bike training and on-bike sessions, available in-person and online.

STRUCTURED FRAMEWORK
Each DRTdryland program is designed to align rider development with the BONDtraining_DRT seasonal framework:
- Phase 1 OFF SEASON (Foundation Builder),
- Phase 2 PRE-SEASON (Power Prep),
- Phase 3 RACE SEASON (Competition Ready),
- Phase 4 POST SEASON (Reset & Recharge).
AGE & STAGE
Each DRT program is designed to align rider development with the LTAD framework & athletic development phases
Ages 5–7: FUNdamentals Program
Play, Balance & Confidence on & off the bike
During this stage, the focus is on building movement literacy through fun, play-based training. Kids develop balance, agility, and coordination while learning to love being active
Ages 7–9: FUNdamentals → Learn to Train Program.
Building confidence speed & skills through FUN
During this phase riders refine their movement skills and begin to build the foundations of speed, coordination, and skill execution. Structured training is introduced.This is the window where speed and skills are most trainable, and we maximize it!
Ages 10–12: Learn to Train Program.
Strong Foundations, Explosive Growth
During this phase riders build on skills and begin more structured training. Riders develop core strength, agility, and the ability to handle more demanding sport-specific drills, preparing them for competition.
Ages 12–14: Train to Train Program
During this phase riders move into structured training that develops endurance, strength, and enhanced tactical skills. This is where we set the stage for long-term performance by ‘building the engine.’
Ages 15–18: Learn to Compete / Train to Compete Program
_During this phase programming is for riders ready to push toward peak high performance. Training focuses on speed, power, resilience, and race execution. Riders learn to perform when it counts.
